As with any successful organization, its most precious resource is its people. In 2002, the company realized that its training efforts were not consistent across all divisions. To provide focus and to better coordinate efforts across the organization, the Ecker University was established.
Ecker University serves as the umbrella for all training efforts. The purpose of Ecker University is to provide comprehensive career development training for the people within the Ecker organization. Processes and personnel throughout the organization are reviewed with a critical eye towards identifying ways in which effectiveness can be increased. Ecker University contains both formal and informal programs. Formal programs include Safety training, the Quality Assurance Program, and the Ecker project management institute. Informal programs include new employee orientations and tuition reimbursement programs.
In 2003, Ecker University kicked off the Ecker Project Management
Institute. Three project managers were enrolled in the program and went
through a stringent eleven month classroom style training covering a wide
array of topics covering all aspects of the Ecker business model. On many
occasions, the classroom was a job site, where the trainees worked side by
side with skilled tradesmen to get a better appreciation of what it takes to
get the job done. On other occasions, they manned the desks of various
administrative personnel.
In 2004, the training emphasis is being placed on field leadership. Unlike
the Ecker Project Management Institute, the actual training will primarily
take place in the field. The focus of this program will be to increase the
leadership skills of middle and upper level management within field
personnel.
