Safety as a VALUE
Our goal is to establish a deeply rooted, zero-incident safety culture. To create and nurture this atmosphere throughout Ecker, management is viewing safety as a Value of our organization, and communicates this value to line managers on a regular basis. At Ecker, management truly treats safety as a corporate ethic that helps guide our every day business process.
In order for us to be successful, Ecker’s organizational strategies, performance management, leadership programs, and behavioral strategies work with and support our individual location’s safety efforts.
One of the results of this strategy is that Ecker is moving away from measuring system output as a sole indicator of relative safety performance and instead is moving toward measuring various proactive safety activities. By conducting these types of activities, our line managers and employees have begun to actively embrace safety as a value.
Superintendents and foremen are the key to instilling the idea that "safety is a value," and are the primary drivers of our Safety Culture.
Although we will always place a high value on the ‘safety is a line management’ theory, we never lose sight of the importance of teaching and reinforcing safe behaviors of our individual employees. During our mandatory safety orientations, we explain to new employees that safety is a partnership—a partnership between the employee, the employee’s family, and the company. We empower each employee to believe that they themselves are responsible for safety.
