Safety First

Zero-Incident Safety CULTURE

There is a big difference between having a safety program and building a "Safety Culture." For example, in the past, the safety program of many contractors consisted of a safety manual and semi-regular safety meetings on the jobsite. In some cases, as the company grows, someone usually carries the dual title of a Safety Director as well as their regular position as a project manager or senior superintendent.

At Ecker Enterprises, safety is different. Safety is a line management responsibility.

Ecker management squarely places day-to-day responsibility for safety on its line managers -- the superintendents and foremen. To help achieve this change in the way our safety program is viewed internally, management has communicated to the line managers that THEY, not the Safety Director, will be held responsible, and accountable, for conducting routine safety activities and achieving safety related goals.
